Sandra Charis Tee
Lead Educational Therapist
Sandra Charis Tee has two decades of local and overseas experience working with children and adolescents with varying learning and behavioural needs, both in private clinical and school settings. She works with her clients to improve their academic and social functioning, and has a special interest in inclusive education.
Sandra has journeyed with many clients from preschool through to primary and secondary school. Over the years, she has forged deep bonds with her charges, as well as their parents, and continue to mentor some of them even long after they have graduated and intervention has ended. Relationships and trust are at the heart of what Sandra does as she believes that close cooperation between therapist, parents and child is crucial to long-term positive therapeutic outcomes.
Besides working with young clients, Sandra Charis also conducts workshops and seminars for parents and professional educators alike on topics that include literacy and numeracy learning, as well as inclusive education and behavioural management. Sandra Charis has delivered workshops and seminars for organisations including preschools, primary schools, secondary schools, AWWA Resource Centre and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She was also previously interviewed on Toggle Television on the topic of early learning development.
Keen to pass on her knowledge, Sandra also lectures part-time at the National Institute of Education at Nanyang Technological University. She currently guides special educators who are taking the Diploma in Special Education in the area of effective learning and teaching practices.
Sandra Charis holds a Master of Educational Studies (Learning Support) from the University of Queensland, Australia. During her tenure with the university, she was awarded a scholarship and received commendations from the Dean for outstanding academic achievement. In addition, she received a special award from the Board of Special Educators (Brisbane Branch) for having achieved the highest proficiency level in her field of studies. A firm believer in lifelong education, she is currently enrolled in the Doctor in Education program at the National Institute of Education (NTU) and is undertaking research in mathematics disabilities.
As a previous member of the Coalition Against Bullying for Children and Youth, a local non-profit organisation, she has conducted workshops and talks on behalf of the organization at various local schools and was invited by Mediacorp 938 Live to speak on the issue of bullying on two separate occasions. She was also invited to write an introductory chapter, Overview of Risk Factors in Bullying, in the book, "Breaking the Silence: Bullying in Singapore" by Esther Ng and Ken Rigby, alongside internationally renowned researchers in the field.
Sandra Charis is a mother to two boisterous and fun-loving boys in their teenage years. As such, she sees herself as an empathetic partner to other parents on a similar parenthood journey.
